Al Hadath: Hezbollah al-Nujaba leader criticises US position on Iraq
The leader of the Iraqi Shiite group Hezbollah al-Nujaba, Akram al-Kaabi, said in an interview with Al Hadath TV that the US refusal to approve former candidate for Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki was an “unacceptable interference” in Iraq’s internal affairs.
According to him, “all laws guarantee resistance against occupiers,” and he described the United States as “openly acting as occupiers.”
Commenting on the issue of disarming armed formations in Iraq, al-Kaabi said that the possession of weapons is necessary to protect the country’s sovereignty. He claimed that due to “aggression” from Israel and the United States, as well as strikes by some Gulf states on positions of armed groups and Iraqi security forces, disarmament is impossible, as it would, in his words, leave the country defenceless.
