Al Jazeera: Number of ships crossing Strait of Hormuz falls
31 August 2026 09:18
The number of ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz fell to five per day over the weekend, Al Jazeera reports, citing shipping data.
The outlet noted that the actual number of vessels passing through the strait could be higher, as some crews deliberately switch off their Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) to reduce the risk of being detected and avoid possible attacks.
The day before, the US struck Iranian territory for the first time since July, targeting Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Barak Ravid, a journalist with US outlet Axios, said the strikes were believed to have targeted launchers on the island.
