Al-Monitor: White House urges Gulf states to join strikes on Iran
The White House is reportedly intensifying diplomatic efforts to persuade Middle Eastern countries affected by the recent escalation to join strikes against Iran.
According to Al-Monitor, which cited informed sources, Washington is seeking to rally regional partners to participate in military action targeting Iran amid the worsening situation.
For their part, the Gulf states are currently said to be counting on a rapid de-escalation and a conclusion to the ongoing operation. Despite the mounting pressure, they have so far refrained from direct involvement.
“Gulf countries are currently taking a wait-and-see approach, even though they are clearly on the side of America and Israel. The question is whether they will be able to overcome their fear and realise that they need to defend their sovereignty,” a source within the Israeli government said.
