Albania lays out roadmap to EU membership by 2030

The goal of Albania’s parliamentary majority is to complete European Union accession negotiations by 2027 and become a full-fledged EU member by 2030, Taulant Balla, head of the Socialist Party parliamentary faction, said.

He added that the aim is to conclude the negotiations by next Christmas, with ratification by the parliaments of all 27 EU member states to take place in 2028, Caliber.Az reports, citing Albanian media.

“We must complete the accession negotiations by next Christmas, secure ratification by the 27 parliaments of the member states by 2028 and raise our national red-and-black flag in the very heart of Brussels by 2030. We must move forward with electoral reform; this requires the efforts of all political forces. The role of the opposition is indispensable,” Balla noted.

The Socialist Party, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, is Albania’s ruling party and the main force in the parliamentary majority.

In November 2025, Albania and the EU opened the final cluster in the accession negotiations for the Balkan country’s membership in the European Union. This marked the completion of the process of opening all negotiating clusters, bringing Albania into the final stage of its accession talks.

The EU said the remaining work would focus on meeting the conditions required to provisionally close the chapters under the final cluster and ensuring that Albania continues to align its legislation and policies with EU standards.
