Allied fighters shoot down drone over Latvia

Allied fighter jets shot down a drone after it entered Latvian airspace early Friday, bringing the threat to an end, Latvia’s National Armed Forces (NBS) said.

The NBS said the aircraft were scrambled as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission, which monitors and protects the airspace of the Baltic states.

The authorities have not disclosed the origin of the drone or provided further details about the incident.

As a precautionary measure following the incident, Finland temporarily restricted both air and maritime traffic in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland.
