Ambassadors in Prague raise funds for generators to aid Ukraine
Ambassadors from 35 countries in the Czech Republic have jointly raised funds to purchase three generators for Ukraine, the Ukrainian embassy in Prague said.
A total of 80,000 Czech crowns (around $4,000) was collected, with the initiative coordinated by Lithuania’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, Rolandas Kačinskas, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Diplomats said the generators would help Ukraine cope with an ongoing energy crisis, exacerbated by Russian strikes on infrastructure and a harsh winter affecting millions of civilians.
Sweden’s ambassador, Håkan Jevrell, noted that the annual donations by diplomatic missions also serve as a reminder of the tragic anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Ukraine’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, emphasised the practical impact of the gesture.
“This is not merely a symbolic act. These generators literally save lives. And the act itself is equally important – Ukraine must not feel alone or abandoned in this struggle. As we often say, saving even one life is to save the world,” he said.
