American Conservative: US should not offer security guarantees to Ukraine
The United States should avoid providing security guarantees to Ukraine and refrain from being drawn into a conflict with Russia, while Europe should assume greater responsibility for Kyiv’s security, The American Conservative has argued.
According to the magazine’s commentators, Ukraine is “not worth war” with a nuclear-armed state over what Moscow views as its existential interests. They contend that if Ukraine is not worth such a conflict today, “it won’t be worth going to war tomorrow.”
The article insists that a US president committed to peace must prevent America from becoming involved in the confrontation. “It is Europe’s turn to take over its own security,” the publication notes.
The American Conservative also argues that sustained US backing for Kyiv is not in Washington’s strategic interest. “Kiev shouldn’t get U.S. security guarantees. Fighting Russia over Ukraine isn’t remotely in America’s interests,” the article says, adding that alliances must be rooted in security considerations rather than "charity".
