American singer-songwriter Jill Sobule dies in house fire

American singer-songwriter Jill Sobule died in a house fire on May 1 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Her manager, John Porter, confirmed the news, describing her as "a force of nature and human rights advocate" whose music left an indelible mark on popular culture, TMZ reports.

“I was having so much fun working with her. I lost a client & a friend today. I hope her music, memory, and legacy continue to live on and inspire others,” Porter said in a statement.

Sobule, 66, was recognised for her 1995 song "I Kissed a Girl", as well as, her performance of "Supermodel," featured in the 1995 film Clueless, starring Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, and Brittany Murphy. 

Throughout her three-decade career, Sobule released 12 albums and created a critically acclaimed autobiographical musical titled F** 7th Grade*. She also contributed the theme song to the popular Nickelodeon series Unfabulous.
