Another oil tanker attacked in Strait of Hormuz

Another oil tanker has been hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The vessel’s company security officer reported that the tanker was struck by an unknown projectile, causing a fire on board. The fire was subsequently extinguished, and all crew members were reported safe, according to a UKMTO warning issued on September 18. The environmental impact of the incident remains unconfirmed.

Authorities are investigating the incident. UKMTO has advised vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity while the investigation is underway.

The incident follows a report by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of an attack on another oil tanker, the Togo-flagged Trend, which it said had attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
