Anthrax detected in Azerbaijan Official confirmation
Anthrax has been detected in Azerbaijan, with three residents of Faldarli village in Zagatala District hospitalized at the Clinical Medical Centre in Baku on June 7, 2024, with suspected anthrax diagnoses, according to a joint statement from the press services of the Ministry of Health and the Association for Management of Territorial Medical Institutions (TƏBİB), as reported by Caliber.Az.
One patient has already confirmed the diagnosis, and treatment is underway according to the medical protocol. The other two patients have had samples taken for laboratory analysis, which have been sent to the Centre for Control of Particularly Dangerous Infections.
Efforts to contain the outbreak have been swift and coordinated. The Centre for Hygiene and Epidemiology, alongside the regional office of the Food Security Agency, the Zagatala District Animal Health and Veterinary Services Department, and the district police department, have worked together to localize the outbreak within the village.
It's important to note that anthrax is a zoonotic infection and does not spread from person to person.
