Anti-immigration protests erupt across UK after Northern Ireland stabbing VIDEO

Anti-immigration protests erupted across the United Kingdom on Tuesday, June 9, following charges against a 30-year-old man, reportedly of Sudanese origin, in connection with a stabbing in Northern Ireland, according to CNN.

Violence broke out in the evening in Belfast, where groups of masked individuals set fire to homes, cars, a bus and makeshift barricades. Similar unrest was reported in nearby Newtownabbey and Kilkeel, where vehicles were also torched. Demonstrations were additionally reported in other cities across the United Kingdom, including London, Glasgow and Bangor.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the stabbing occurred on Monday evening in north Belfast. The victim suffered severe knife injuries to the eye, back and face and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said the suspect arrived in Ireland from Paris in 2023 and subsequently applied for asylum in the United Kingdom. He has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a bladed weapon and making threats to kill.

Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O’Neill condemned the violence, stating that groups of masked men were “smoking families out of their homes,” and describing the unrest as “outright thuggery.”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also denounced the incidents, saying he “will not tolerate such appalling scenes on our streets.”

Police emphasised that there is currently no evidence to suggest a terrorist motive behind the stabbing and urged the public to remain calm and refrain from participating in the disturbances.
