AP: Trump orders stand-down on Venezuela prosecution case
28 May 2026 21:16
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has quietly instructed federal prosecutors in Miami to refrain from pursuing criminal charges against Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez, according to the Associated Press (AP), citing law enforcement sources.
According to the report, Rodríguez had been under investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) since at least 2018, although no formal charges were ever filed.
Sources told AP that the decision to halt potential proceedings was aimed at avoiding complications in efforts to normalise relations between Washington and Caracas.
“Everybody has been told to stand down,” one source was quoted as saying.
