AP: US strikes on Caracas lasted under 30 minutes
The US attack on Venezuela’s capital lasted less than 30 minutes, during which at least seven explosions were heard across Caracas, sending residents rushing into the streets, according to AP.
Witnesses said multiple blasts rang out as low-flying aircraft swept over the city, while others took to social media to report hearing and seeing explosions. It was not immediately clear whether there were casualties. The Associated Press reported that the short but intense episode raised uncertainty over whether further action could follow.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly told Republican Senator Mike Lee that the United States does not intend to continue attacks following the operation.
The United States has said it carried out a “large-scale strike” early on January 3 and that President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores were captured and flown out of the country.
