Argentina reports record hantavirus outbreak

Argentina has recorded a surge in hantavirus cases, with health authorities confirming what has been described as a record outbreak, the Ministry of Health has announced.
It said the country has registered the highest level of this disease in the past decade, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
During the 2025–2026 epidemiological season, 101 confirmed cases have already been reported.
Hantavirus belongs to a family of pathogens capable of causing viral hemorrhagic fevers, which are characterised by damage to blood vessels, severe systemic toxicity, and a risk of bleeding.
It causes severe illness, most commonly affecting the lungs or kidneys.
