Argentine court seeks extradition of Nicolás Maduro from United States

An Argentine court has requested the extradition of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro from the United States in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged crimes against humanity.

Argentine judge Sebastián Ramos signed the extradition request, arguing that Maduro should be transferred to Argentina to be questioned as a suspect in the case, according to the Infobae news portal.

The investigation stems from a complaint filed by a non-governmental organisation accusing the Venezuelan leader of alleged human rights violations. In September 2024, a court in Buenos Aires approved a request from Argentina’s Prosecutor General’s Office to place Maduro on a wanted list.

Following the court’s decision, Judge Ramos forwarded the request to Interpol, initiating international procedures related to the case.
