Kyiv police received a call from pedestrians who informed that an unknown man with a weapon in his hands was walking along the Verkhovna Rada Boulevard.
At the scene, officers found that a woman had noticed a 31-year-old Kyiv resident under the influence of alcohol, holding a pistol. Frightened, she alerted a group of men nearby. However, when confronted, the man reacted aggressively, swearing, reloading the weapon, and pointing it at passers-by.
Police detained the suspect. A breathalyser test showed 2.26‰ alcohol in his blood.
Investigators confiscated a pneumatic pistol and informed him of suspicion under the charge of hooliganism, defined as a gross violation of public order motivated by blatant disrespect for society and accompanied by exceptional audacity.
The maximum penalty under the article provides up to five years of restriction of liberty, the police said.
