Armenia appoints new commander of National Security Service's border troops As well as ambassador to Saudi Arabia
Edgar Unanyan has been appointed the new commander of the Armenian National Security Service's border troops.
The decree was signed by the country's president on the basis of Prime Minister Pashinyan's proposal, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Earlier, Colonel Unanyan held the position of First Deputy Commander of the Armenian National Security Service's Border Troops and Chief of Staff. It should be noted that the Border Troops have been without a head for the second year already.
The previous commander of the Border Troops of the National Security Service of Armenia, Colonel Arman Maralchyan, was relieved of his post after an incident near Tegh village in early April 2023. At that time, there was a scuffle between Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards on the front line. The latter tried to establish themselves on the territory of the Republic of Armenia, which was stopped by the border guards led by Maralchyan.
Besides, Armenia has appointed an ambassador to Saudi Arabia for the first time. Armenia's acting ambassador to the UAE Karen Grigoryan will also represent the country in Saudi Arabia. The relevant decree was signed by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, according to the Armenian president's press service.
In addition, Armenian Ambassador to the Vatican Boris Sahakyan will now also represent Armenia in the Sovereign Jerusalem Military Monastic Order of the Hospitallers of St John, Rhodes and Malta. Armenia's Ambassador to Ethiopia will also fulfil the duties of Ambassador to Kenya.
