Armenia denies rumours about opening border checkpoint with Türkiye
Spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan has said that there are currently no changes regarding the opening of the border crossing between Armenia and Türkiye.
She commented on the news regarding the upcoming opening of the "Margara" checkpoint on the border with Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“At this moment, there are no developments regarding the opening of the border checkpoint between Armenia and Türkiye. If there are any updates, we will inform the public,” Badalyan emphasised.
Earlier, Armenian media, citing a diplomatic source, reported that the border checkpoint would open on March 1. The possibility of launching the border checkpoint was first announced in July 2024 following a meeting between the special representatives of the two countries - Serdar Kilic and Ruben Rubinyan, which took place at the checkpoint.
The Armenian side had previously renovated and re-equipped the checkpoint, spending almost $2.5 million on it. In July 2022, an agreement was reached in Vienna, Austria, to enable third-country citizens visiting Armenia and Türkiye to cross the Armenian-Turkish land border, as well as to implement direct air cargo transportation and launch the necessary processes for this.
