Armenia uses Iranian drones to hit Azerbaijani positions Israeli media reports

17 July 2023 09:10

During several of the recent clashes on the Azeri-Armenian border, the Armenian side used the Shaheds against Azerbaijani position, Israeli state-run TV channel I24 reports.

It is not outlandish to presume that Israel, being on the forefront of anti-missile and anti-drone technology production, has something up its sleeve to assist its major strategic partner Azerbaijan.

Additionally, this constitutes a great proving ground, which in the near future will assist the Israeli defense industry in developing more efficient ways to counter the threat of such UAVs. Moreover, according to the Israeli research center ALMA, Iranian proxies such as Hezbollah will use these drones in a potential military escalation with Israel.

"The public is not aware enough of the dangers posed by drones. It is a new type of global threat, and I hope that Israel is aware of the information about the Iranian companies", ALMA’s research head, Tal Beeri, was quoted recently as saying.

Caliber.Az has repeatedly reported that the Armenian military deployed drones during its provocations on the border and in the Karabakh region over the last period. Back then the Armenian side has denied such reports.

However, in October 2022, the Middle East Monitor wrote that Armenia was one of 22 countries that have officially submitted for the purchase of Iran-made drones.

Former Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and top military aide to Iran's Supreme Leader, Major General Yahia Rahim Safavi, said that Armenia joined Tajikistan, Serbia, Algeria, Venezuela and other countries to activate a drone purchase deal with the Islamic Republic.

In the meantime, another security issue that came up recently is related to the use of radio jamming devices against the GPS satellite navigation systems on Azerbaijani passenger planes. It was reported by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence that such devices were used by Armenian separatists in the Karabakh region, which is temporarily monitored by the Russian peacekeeping mission.
