Armenian citizen declared internationally wanted for burning Azerbaijani flag
Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office has put an Armenian citizen Aram Nikolyan on the international wanted list over the burning of the Azerbaijani flag during the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship in Yerevan on April 14.
The investigation into the criminal case continues under the corresponding articles of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Office’s press service.
According to the preliminary investigation, 1982-born Nikolyan, who serves as an employee of Armenia’s Public Television, together with a group of persons, currently unknown, intentionally burned the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony of the European Championship to commit crimes against Azerbaijani citizens and its interests on the ground of national hatred aimed at the incitement of hatred against Azerbaijan and humiliation of nationality.
On April 19, Nikolyan was prosecuted and placed on an international wanted list with a preventive measure of the arrest.
In order for the General Prosecutor's Office to investigate this criminal case, requests for legal assistance have been sent to the law enforcement agencies of foreign countries within international cooperation, requesting that the necessary investigative measures be taken against Aram Nikolyan and that he be detained and extradited to Azerbaijan in case he crosses the state border.
Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office continues to take comprehensive measures to expose the national hatred and enmity of the Republic of Armenia against our people at the international level, as well as bring the perpetrators to justice under national and international legal norms.
