Asian Development Bank to allocate over $100 million to Tajikistan

09 August 2024 16:12

Tajik First Deputy Finance Minister Yusuf Majidi has said that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to allocate $110 million to finance projects in Tajikistan, including initiatives aimed at implementing economic reforms.

"Next week, we will sign an agreement with the Asian Development Bank for approximately $110 million in grant funds," Majidi stated at a press conference, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

The signing ceremony is scheduled for August 19 in Dushanbe.

He specified that around $50 million of these funds will be directed towards a programme focused on improving the investment climate and business environment, as well as providing budgetary support. More than $20 million will be allocated to a project supporting women in agriculture, and additional funding will be secured for the rehabilitation of the "Sarband" hydroelectric power station.

Additionally, Majidi mentioned that Tajikistan expects to sign several financial agreements with partners for the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant, specifically with the OPEC Fund for International Development and the World Bank. Earlier, he stated that the Tajik authorities are counting on $650 million in financing from the World Bank for the Rogun project. Overall, the construction of the region's largest hydroelectric power station will require $6.2 billion.
