At least 10 dead in Chile storms as thousands cut off VIDEO

At least 10 people have died, and four remain missing after heavy rains and powerful winds struck parts of Chile, authorities said on Tuesday, July 21.

The extreme weather has also left 17 people injured, according to Alicia Cebrián, director of Chile’s National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response, as reported by TASS.

More than 1,100 people have been moved to emergency shelters, while over 104,500 residents have been cut off from outside access, particularly in the northern regions of Atacama and Coquimbo.

The storms caused significant damage to infrastructure, with more than 2,000 homes affected and 76 residential buildings completely destroyed. Approximately 138,000 people have been left without electricity.

In response to the disaster, authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Coquimbo region and in Huasco province in the Atacama region, as emergency services continue relief and recovery operations.
