At least 16 dead in Indonesia nursing home fire PHOTO

A major fire broke out at a nursing home on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, killing at least 16 people.

Another three people suffered burns and were hospitalised, as reported by Metro TV.

The tragedy occurred on the evening of December 28 in the city of Manado. According to rescuers, many of the victims were found in their rooms. “It was evening, so most of the elderly residents were likely already resting,” said Jimmy Rotinsulu, a representative of the emergency services.

During the rescue operation, 12 people were evacuated from the building without injuries and taken to a local hospital for medical checks. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
