At least 16 killed in school bus crash in northwest Colombia
At least 16 people have died and 19 others were injured in a school bus accident in northwest Colombia.
A tour bus carrying graduates from Liceo Antioqueño in the municipality of Bello lost control, veered off the road, and fell into a ravine, Caliber.Az reports per El Tiempo.
At the time of the accident, between 35 and 45 people were reportedly on board.
Regional sources initially reported at least 16 dead and 19 injured, though authorities noted that the final toll has not yet been confirmed. Dozens of the injured were rushed to medical facilities in the cities of Segovia and Remedios.
The National Road Safety Agency said that authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash and expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the injured.
Antioquia Department Governor Andrés Julián Rendón confirmed on social media that the bus was carrying students returning from a school trip and acknowledged the multiple fatalities and injuries.
