At least 37 dead after bus plunges into ravine in southern Peru

At least 37 people have died after a bus fell into a ravine in southern Peru, local media outlet RPP reports.

"Unfortunately, 36 people were confirmed dead at the scene, and another person died in the hospital. This is likely the final toll," said Walter Oporto, head of the Arequipa regional health service.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bus collided with a truck before veering off the road. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

The bus was travelling from the city of Chala to Arequipa.
