Attempted drug smuggling from Iran into Azerbaijan foiled by border forces
Azerbaijani border authorities have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of narcotics across the country’s southern border with Iran, the State Border Service (SBS) announced in an official statement.
The interception took place within the jurisdiction of the "Horadiz" border detachment, where vigilant patrol units detected and prevented an illegal border crossing from Iranian territory into Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Following a coordinated search and operational sweep of the area, border officers recovered and confiscated 13.6 kilograms of marijuana. The narcotics were concealed in a manner consistent with cross-border trafficking methods, officials noted.
The SBS emphasized that operational and investigative procedures are actively underway to identify those responsible and uncover any broader network connected to the smuggling attempt.
