Australia shuts embassies and consulates in key Middle East cities

Penny Wong, the foreign minister of Australia, has confirmed that several Australian diplomatic missions in the Middle East have been physically closed amid escalating regional conflict.

According to a report by ABC News, Wong said the decision was made after multiple cities hosting Australian diplomatic facilities came under attack.

“At least nine cities where Australian embassies and consulates are located have been hit by missile strikes and drone attacks,” she said.

“Over the past week, we have had to physically close our missions in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Tel Aviv,” Wong added.
