Australia to release 519 million litres of fuel as war disrupts markets
19 March 2026 12:27
Australia will release 519 million litres of petrol and diesel from its reserves to support domestic supply, Federal Energy Minister Chris Bowen announced, according to Australian media.
Bowen said the move fulfils a prior government commitment and is aimed at ensuring fuel availability across regional areas of the country.
While urging the public not to panic, the minister warned that ongoing disruptions linked to the war could affect fuel supplies to Australia after the second half of April, creating uncertainty in the market.
“The ships we were expecting have arrived… Our refineries are operating at full capacity, but beyond the end of the second half of April, there is significant uncertainty,” Bowen said.
