Austrian Chancellor unveils tougher anti-terror measures after Vienna concert threat
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has announced a new initiative to bolster anti-terrorism measures following the cancellation of a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna due to a terrorist threat.
The Austrian People's Party (ANP), of which Nehammer is a member, will soon present a comprehensive plan, Caliber.Az reports via the Kronen Zeitung newspaper.
Among the key proposals is granting security services the authority to monitor messaging platforms.
The ANP also advocates for stricter laws governing associations and assemblies, specifically targeting "political Islam". The proposed legislation aims to counter organizations that are "fundamentally opposed to the values and core principles of the European democratic state."
Additionally, the party is considering the inclusion of new restrictions in the law on political parties, specifically targeting "anti-democratic parties".
