Austrian national killed after firing on police near Israeli consulate in Munich VIDEO
An 18-year-old man, identified as Emre I., opened fire on police officers near the Israeli Consulate General in Munich on September 5.
The suspect, an Austrian national known to law enforcement as an Islamist, arrived in Germany from Salzburg, Austria, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The suspect drove to Munich in a car and fired a multiple-shot rifle at law enforcement officers. Police returned fire, wounding him. Emre I. later died from his injuries.
The incident caused alarm among local residents, who reported hearing gunshots and loud noises. Authorities quickly responded, deploying police snipers and helicopters to the scene.
The shooting occurred on the anniversary of the 1972 Munich Olympics attack, when 11 Israeli athletes were taken hostage and killed by terrorists.
