Axios explains reason for delay in US–Iran deal signing
The reason why Washington postponed the trip of Vice President J.D. Vance to Switzerland for the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran may have been Tehran’s position on Lebanon.
Axios correspondent and Channel 12 Israeli television journalist Barak Ravid has reported on his X account.
A spokesperson for Vance previously stated that the Vice President did not plan to travel to Switzerland for the mentioned ceremony or for the start of technical negotiations between the sides. According to Ravid, citing a U.S. official source, “one of the reasons for the delay could have been the Iranian demands regarding the situation in Lebanon.”
Tehran has stated that it would consider any new Israeli attack on Lebanon a violation of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding with the United States.
Vance previously said that the signing ceremony of the memorandum would most likely take place over the weekend. He noted that this largely depends on the Iranian side.
