Axios: US, Iran to hold talks in Doha after agreeing to halt strikes

29 June 2026 09:13

Representatives of the United States and Iran have agreed to halt strikes against each other and hold talks in Doha on June 30 aimed at resolving disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz, sources familiar with the matter told Axios journalist Barak Ravid.

“The U.S. and Iran agreed to stop attacking each other, according to a senior U.S. official, as the two sides plan to meet Tuesday in Qatar's capital to work out their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz,” Ravid said.

One source told Axios that the two sides had originally planned to hold consultations in Switzerland on Tuesday, June 30, where discussions were expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear program.

However, following the escalation of tensions in recent days, Washington and Tehran reportedly decided to change both the venue and the primary subject of the talks.

The US source added that Nick Stewart, who leads the American technical team, will take part in the consultations. The White House did not immediately comment on the matter.
