Axios: US plans “short and powerful wave of strikes” against Iran
The commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), Adm. Brad Cooper, has developed a plan for potential military action in Iran and is set to present it to President Donald Trump in a briefing, Axios reports.
Sources said the plan envisions a “short and powerful wave of strikes” likely targeting Iranian infrastructure.
The objective would be to push Tehran back to the negotiating table and force concessions on its nuclear program.
The strategy also reportedly includes options involving the seizure of the Strait of Hormuz, which could require the deployment of ground forces, as well as a special operation targeting Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
Axios noted that the upcoming briefing signals what it described as serious intentions by the US president to potentially resume military operations in Iran.
It added that the goal could either be to increase pressure on Tehran during negotiations or to deliver a decisive strike before the conflict concludes.
The outlet also said a similar briefing by Adm. Cooper was held days before the start of a military operation in February.
