Axios: US set for multi-week military operation targeting Iran
The United States is reportedly preparing a large-scale military operation against Iran that could last several weeks and potentially escalate into a full-scale war, Axios reports, citing sources familiar with Pentagon plans.
The campaign would be a joint US–Israeli effort, significantly greater than the June conflict Israel conducted against Iran with US support, according to the sources.
This operation is expected to have existential implications for the Iranian regime and serious regional consequences.
Sources noted that preparations for what could become the most significant US military intervention in the Middle East in the past decade have received little public or congressional attention, despite potential dramatic effects on the remaining three years of President Donald Trump’s term.
Earlier, the US military command completed the deployment of additional forces to the Middle East ahead of negotiations with Iran. Open-flight radar data indicate that more than 50 F‑35, F‑22, and F‑16 fighters were deployed to the region within the last 24 hours.
CNN reported that the military buildup is also intended to increase pressure on Tehran during ongoing diplomatic talks.
