Axios: US-Iran diplomatic talks advance toward key understanding deal
US Vice President JD Vance stated that Washington and Tehran have made significant progress toward a memorandum of understanding, Axios reports.
"We're going back and forth on a couple of language points. We've made a lot of progress here," Vance noted.
"Hopefully, we'll continue to make progress and the President will be in a position where he can endorse the agreement, but obviously that's still TBD," he added. "I can't guarantee that we're going to get there ... but right now I feel pretty good about."
According to Axios, US officials noted that by the evening of May 28, Trump was leaning toward signing the document, but had not yet done so. One reason for the delay is the desire to ensure that “Iranian officials would sign the deal and not back away.”
It is also reported that the US president intends to assess the domestic political reaction to a potential deal before making a final decision.
