AZAL says air accident probes can take over a year, or years if necessary
International aviation regulations typically recommend completing air accident investigations within one year of an incident, but the timeline is not mandatory, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Vice President Ilham Amirov has said, local outlet reports.
Speaking to journalists, Amirov emphasised the importance of investigation results, which are shared with aviation organisations worldwide to prevent similar incidents in the future. He noted that while there is no strict time limit, investigations can take years if necessary.
“For example, if an investigation is conducted to analyse a part of an aircraft, device, or unit, they are 'disassembled' at specific institutions for examination. This can take a very long time. However, it is generally recommended that the investigation be completed within a year,” Amirov explained.
