AZAL, Wizz Air team up to open major European flight corridors photo
Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, part of AZCON Holding, has taken a major step to strengthen air connectivity with Central and Eastern Europe through a high-level meeting with Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air.
The discussions focused on expanding the route network and exploring new opportunities for regional aviation cooperation.
The airline’s press service told Caliber.Az the talks centred on launching direct flights from Baku to Bratislava (Slovakia), as well as integrating Bucharest (Romania) and Warsaw (Poland) into Azerbaijan’s international flight network.

Both sides also evaluated the potential for Wizz Air to operate flights from Azerbaijan’s regional airports and discussed various basing models. Officials highlighted that such initiatives are expected to provide a significant boost to tourism, enhance business mobility, and strengthen international ties in the country’s regions.
Flight operations on the new routes are set to begin in the near future. The first phase will see services to Bratislava, Bucharest, and Warsaw, offering travellers more options and convenience.
Azerbaijan Airlines and Wizz Air have expressed their commitment to continuing discussions on further stages of collaboration. The ultimate goal is to establish a broader, competitive, and accessible route network, enhancing Azerbaijan’s profile in civil aviation both regionally and globally.
