Azerbaijan achieves official recognition as small ruminant plague-free at OIE General Assembly
At the 91st General Assembly of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) in Paris, Azerbaijan was officially recognized as free from small ruminant plague (SR). Representatives from the country's Food Security Agency received a special certificate commemorating this achievement.
According to the Agency's Information Support and Innovative Solutions Department, the head of the OIE's scientific commission reported that Azerbaijan's submission met the OIE's requirements for SR freedom, Azertac reports, adding that this report was then approved by a vote.
This recognition marks Azerbaijan as the only country in the region to achieve SR-free status. OIE leadership highlighted that Azerbaijan's successful experience will be shared with other countries, positioning Azerbaijan as a leader in this field.
The approval of SR-free status reflects the OIE's high confidence in Azerbaijan's veterinary system and its alignment with international standards. This designation will enhance opportunities for exporting small ruminants and related products and facilitate transit transportation through Azerbaijan.
