Azerbaijan Airlines’ department earns global recognition at prestigious ATM Awards 2024 PHOTO

16 May 2025 19:11

Azerbaijan Air Navigation Services Department (AZANS) of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), operating under AZCON Holding, has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing a prestigious award at the 2024 ATM Awards in the "Collaboration and Community" category.

This category is one of the most respected recognitions in the air traffic management sector, AZAL told Caliber.Az.

The "Collaboration and Community" category celebrates projects that foster sustainable, flexible, and efficient development in air traffic management by promoting collaboration across various sectors of aviation. AZANS earned this distinguished recognition for its pivotal role in the NATS Green Aviation Insights (GAIN) project.

This collaborative initiative, in partnership with leading air navigation service providers, including NATS (UK), AZANS (Azerbaijan), CAAM (Malaysia), and skeyes (Belgium), earned second place in the category. The top award in the same category was claimed by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and NASA for their groundbreaking project focused on integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into shared airspace.

Director of AZANS Farhan Guliyev expressed his pride in the recognition, stating, "We are honoured that the GAIN project has been recognised at such a high level and placed alongside the FAA and NASA's initiative. This acknowledgment underscores AZANS' active contribution to the development of sustainable air traffic management approaches and enhances Azerbaijan's standing in the global air navigation community. Congratulations to all our project partners and participants!"

The GAIN initiative, which focuses on improving environmental efficiency in air traffic management, leverages data-driven transparency and implements comparative analysis mechanisms among air navigation service providers.

This international effort is a prime example of how cross-border collaboration can help create a more environmentally sustainable and technologically advanced future for aviation. The results of the 2024 ATM Awards were revealed at the Airspace World 2025 exhibition, held in Lisbon, Portugal, from May 13 to 15, where global aviation leaders gathered to discuss the future of the industry.
