Azerbaijan Army hosts festive events marking Solidarity Day and New Year PHOTO

31 December 2024 19:00

In line with the plan approved by the Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, the Azerbaijan Army celebrated 31 December – the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis and the New Year with a series of events across all branches, including the Combined Arms Army, army corps, formations, and special educational institutions.

The commemorative events began with a tribute to the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and the Martyrs who gave their lives for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. A military orchestra accompanied the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, marking the solemnity of the occasion, Caliber.Az reports via the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.

During the events, speakers highlighted the historical and cultural importance of Solidarity Day, emphasizing its role in fostering national unity, respect for spiritual values, and a deep attachment to the Motherland. They reflected on the origins of the day, tracing it back to the decision made on December 16, 1991, by the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev. This decision led to the declaration of 31 December as the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, which was later formalized by the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The events also underscored the outstanding contributions of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in uniting Azerbaijanis worldwide and the achievements of his successor, President Ilham Aliyev, who continues to uphold and advance the principles set forth by the National Leader.

As part of the celebrations, military personnel attended screenings of documentaries, participated in meetings with veterans and public figures, and engaged in cultural and patriotic activities. The project "Letter to a Soldier" enabled heartfelt messages to be sent to servicemen defending the nation.

Concerts organized by the Hazi Aslanov Army Ideological and Cultural Center, the Ganja Garrison Ideological and Cultural Center, and creative teams from regional cultural departments were among the highlights of the festive programs, drawing widespread appreciation from attendees.
