Azerbaijan boosts its position as Türkiye’s second largest gas supplier in April 2025
Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority has announced that Azerbaijan exported 3.715 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Türkiye from January to April 2025, marking a modest 1.1 per cent increase compared to the same period of last year.
Some 3.609 billion cubic meters out of this volume were delivered under long-term contracts, while 105.72 million cubic meters were sold on a spot basis, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
In April, Azerbaijan’s gas exports to Türkiye reached 999.83 million cubic meters, slightly down 0.09 per cent year-on-year.
Long-term contract volumes accounted for 956.46 million cubic meters, and spot sales made up 43.37 million cubic meters. Türkiye’s overall gas imports surged 69.54 per cent in April to 4.061 billion cubic meters.
Pipeline gas represented 3.656 billion cubic meters (90.04 per cent of imports, up 86.73 per cent), while liquefied natural gas (LNG) totaled 404.65 million cubic meters (9.96 per cent of imports, down 7.46 per cent).
In terms of supplier rankings for April, Azerbaijan ranked second with a 24.62 per cent share of Türkiye’s total gas imports, behind Russia at 44.81 per cent, followed by Iran (17.41 per cent) and Turkmenistan (3.19 per cent). Notably, April marked the first time Turkmenistan supplied gas to Türkiye, delivering 129.63 million cubic meters.
Azerbaijan’s exports stem from the Shah Deniz field’s Stage 1 and Stage 2 projects. In 2024, Azerbaijan exported 11.478 billion cubic meters of gas to Türkiye - an 11.9 per cent increase over 2023. Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov has stated that Azerbaijan plans to deliver 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Türkiye in 2025.
