Azerbaijani border guards seize over 16 kg of drugs in smuggling attempt from Iran

The State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan has successfully intercepted a significant drug smuggling operation along the country’s border with Iran.
At 11:20 on January 30, border guards stationed at the Goytapa Border Detachment thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 16 kilograms of illicit narcotics into Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports citing the SBS press service.
According to the SBS, the seized drugs included 11.3 kg of marijuana, 5.1 kg of opium, and 1,990 methadone M-40 pills. The interception was part of ongoing operational measures aimed at bolstering border security and combating the illegal drug trade.
An investigation is underway into the incident.
