Azerbaijan brings to justice former separatist "minister" for crimes against humanity Statement by the Prosecutor General's Office
Perpetrators of crimes against peace and humanity brought to justice.
The investigation of criminal cases initiated by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan on the facts of committing war crimes against peace and humanity in relation to captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, civilians and other persons by members of Armenian armed groups continues, Prosecutor General's Office told Caliber.Az.
The investigation found that David Babayan, born in 1973 in the town of Khankendi and who worked as "deputy head of the presidential staff, assistant to the president on foreign policy issues, foreign minister and assistant to the president for special assignments" of the separatist regime in 2013-2023, during the 44-day Patriotic War and during anti-terrorist measures to restore the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and ensure the security of the population, together with other "senior officials" of the separatist regime, was engaged in activities encouraging national discord and hatred, as well as coordinated the actions of terrorist groups.
The investigation had a reasonable suspicion that David Babayan was involved in organising terrorism-related crimes, including the firing of ballistic missiles at unprotected settlements inhabited by civilians on October 17, 2020, in the city of Ganja, Republic of Azerbaijan. On October 28, 2020, criminal proceedings were initiated against David Babayan under articles 100.1, 100.2, 32.3, 114.1, 32.3, 116.0.1, 32.3, 116.0.6, 32.3, 116.0. 7, 32.3, 116.0.8, 32.3, 116.0.9, 32.3, 116.0.10, 117.2, 32.3,214.2.1, 32.3,214.2.3, 32.3,214.2.3, 32.3,214.2.4, 283.2.1, 283.2.3 of the Criminal Code of Republic of Azerbaijan, he was put on the international wanted list.
On September 29 this year David Babayan was detained by the law enforcement bodies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he was charged under the mentioned articles.
