Azerbaijan celebrates International Mother Language Day with message of unity
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.
“Today is marked as International Mother Language Day. Azerbaijan always remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving and promoting linguistic diversity, as well as safekeeping our rich cultural heritage, reflected in the Azerbaijani language. Happy International Mother Language Day!” Caliber.Az reports via the ministry’s message on X.
International Mother Language Day is observed worldwide on February 21 each year to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and raise awareness about the importance of preserving languages.
In Azerbaijan, this day holds special significance as it highlights the country's rich linguistic heritage, including the Azerbaijani language, which is deeply embedded in the nation’s identity and cultural traditions. The observance of International Mother Language Day in Azerbaijan is particularly meaningful in the context of the country's multiethnic society, which is home to a variety of languages spoken by different ethnic groups.
The Azerbaijani government has long been committed to safeguarding its national language while also respecting and celebrating the linguistic diversity of other communities. By promoting this day, Azerbaijan encourages the preservation of its language and culture, while also fostering understanding and mutual respect among diverse linguistic communities.
