Azerbaijan considers reopening embassy in Syria amid strengthened bilateral talks
Azerbaijan is actively considering the possibility of reopening its embassy in Syria, Aykhan Hajizada, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters.
Hajizada confirmed that a high-level delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev, is currently visiting Syria, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
As part of the visit, the delegation held discussions with Asaad Hassan Al Shibani, Foreign Minister of the Syrian Interim Government.
Hajizada emphasized that the primary focus of the talks was the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Syria and Azerbaijan.
He also provided insight into the status of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Syria, noting that the embassy’s operations were suspended in 2012. However, he confirmed that the possibility of resuming the embassy's activities is now under active consideration.
A delegation led by Yalchin Rafiyev, arrived in Syria for a pivotal visit aimed at fostering diplomatic relations and supporting Syria’s reconstruction efforts.
During his meeting with Asaad Hasan Al-Shibani, Deputy Minister Rafiyev conveyed the Azerbaijani leadership’s congratulations to Syria on entering a new phase of stability and inclusive governance. Highlighting Azerbaijan's solidarity, he reaffirmed his country’s readiness to assist Syria in rebuilding infrastructure and restoring socio-economic stability.
