Azerbaijan continues operation against Iranian spy network Thirty-nine people detained
Some 39 people, who are suspected of carrying out subversive and sabotage actions under the guise of religion, have been identified and detained in Azerbaijan as a result of special operational measures carried out by the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry.
These individuals, posing as believers, carried out propaganda in favour of Iran on social networking platforms, abused freedom of religion in Azerbaijan, and carried out tasks of the Iranian special services to undermine the traditions of tolerance that have developed in Azerbaijan, APA reports, citing the Interior Ministry.
Using Iranian symbols, as well as black flags with various inscriptions in Persian, on social networks and at religious ceremonies attended by Azerbaijani citizens, they caused confusion in society and passed the information collected to the special services from which they received assignments to induce religious discrimination and incite inter-religious strife.
