Azerbaijan cyber police detains suspects over mass website hacks VIDEO

Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry has detained two men suspected of carrying out cyberattacks against information systems and compromising thousands of websites belonging to foreign entities.

The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Ramil Feyziyev and 22-year-old Elchin Abdullazada, were detained during operational and technical measures conducted by the ministry’s Main Directorate for Combating Cybercrime, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry.

According to the ministry, the investigation found that the suspects allegedly breached servers hosting numerous foreign websites and obtained unauthorized access to their administrative panels.

Investigators said the suspects subsequently obtained confidential information, altered the homepages of compromised websites, installed their own software and took control of the online resources. They also allegedly sold access to the administrative panels of websites they had compromised.

The investigation established that Feyziyev allegedly hacked 2,300 foreign websites, while Abdullazada allegedly compromised 179 websites.

A criminal case has been launched under the relevant provision of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code.

The ministry said its Cyber Police continue operational and investigative activities as part of cooperation with law enforcement agencies in several countries.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full scope of the alleged cyber activity.
