Azerbaijan detained 24 border violators in January

During January 2024, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan continued measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border, fight against smuggling, illegal migration, and the illegal circulation of drugs.

During the month, 24 people were detained for violating the state border, of them 13 were citizens of Azerbaijan, 3 of Pakistan, 2 of Nepal, 2 of Tajikistan, 1 of India, 1 of Morocco, 1 of Georgia and 1 of Türkiye, the state service told Caliber.Az.

As part of measures to combat illegal migration, 19 people tried to cross the state border with fake date stamps, forged passports and documents belonging to others.

1103 people were detained for violating the rules of the border regime and appropriate measures were taken against them.

Additionally, 305 people wanted by the Azerbaijani law enforcement bodies were detained and handed over to the relevant authorities as a result of anti-crime measures. 374 people who were prohibited from exiting the country were prevented from leaving, and 16 people who were prohibited from entering Azerbaijan were prevented.

As a result of measures to combat illicit trafficking of narcotic substances, 107,343 kg of various types of drugs and 135 psychotropic pills were seized from illicit trafficking.

As part of the fight against smuggling, contraband worth AZN 934,715 was detected and seized, including one Glock pistol, foreign currency, tobacco products and others.
