Azerbaijan detains 41 border trespassers in December 2023 PHOTO
The Azerbaijani State Border Service continued measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border and fight against smuggling, illegal migration, and illegal trafficking of drugs in December 2023.
Some 41 people were detained for illegal crossing the state border during the reporting period, 20 of them were citizens of Azerbaijan, six citizens of Pakistan, seven citizens of Iran, three citizens of India, two citizens of Algeria, one citizen of Tajikistan, one citizen of Georgia, one citizen of Türkiye, the State Border Service told Caliber.Az.
Around 22 people were detained while trying to cross the state border with fake passports, visas and date stamps as part of the fight against illegal migration.
Some 834 people were detained for violating border regulations. The appropriate measures were taken against them.
Thus, 404 wanted people were detained and transferred to the relevant agencies, the departure of 419 people who were prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan was prevented, and the entry of 16 people who were prohibited from entering Azerbaijan was prevented as part of measures to combat crime.
Moreover, 155 kilogrammes 280 grams of various types of drugs and 100 psychotropic drugs were seized from illegal circulation as a result of measures to combat drug trafficking.
Some 2,357,830 manats ($1,386,958), drugs, an air pistol, a tear gas canister, medicines, pyrotechnic products, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products were revealed and seized as part of the fight against smuggling.
