Azerbaijan detains 48 border violators in May
Azerbaijan’s State Border Service detained 48 people for violating the country’s borders in May 2023.
Of them, 21 people were citizens of Azerbaijan, eight – of Nepal, seven – of India, four – of Pakistan, two – of Turkey, one citizen of Afghanistan, one citizen of Algeria, one of Ghana, one of Uzbekistan and two citizens of Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Border Service.
The mentioned people were detained within the measures to ensure reliable protection of Azerbaijan’s state border and combat smuggling, illegal migration and illegal drug trafficking.
As part of the fight against illegal migration, 24 people were detained while trying to cross the state border with falsified passports, visas and date stamps. Some 920 people were detained for violating the rules of the border regime, and appropriate measures were taken against them.
As part of the measures to combat crime, 286 wanted people were detained and transferred to the relevant authorities, 449 people prohibited from leaving the country were prevented from leaving the country, and the entry of 19 prohibited from entering Azerbaijan was stopped.
As a result of measures to combat illicit drug trafficking, 118.3 kg of drugs and 1,180 psychotropic pills were seized from illicit trafficking.
A total of 612,036 manats [$359,614], including drugs, mobile phones, and tobacco products were seized as part of the fight against smuggling.
